In New York Fashion Week last month, one of the trends that garnered special attention is the briddle-like belts and towering riding boots by Max Azria of Herve Leger. As a fashionista who loves horses and ranch life as well as fashions that can be interpreted in real life, I have mixed emotions towards these creations.
The collection mostly consists of above the knee dresses, pleated and patterned and some standard bandage dresses with embellished beads, accented with leather body harnesses from neck to waist and paired with gladiator boots in black or brown leather.
I admit, I love the dresses! I´m drawn to the patterns, smooth diagonal lines and the clear vertical silhouettes established by these gorgeous dresses. However, while I admire this creative interpretation of horse riders, only a few of those leather harnesses designs actually impressed me.
I like how the black harnesses worn on the waists accented the white sheath dress because it looks like an oversized leather belt with, well, equestrian taste. The brown leather harnesses did a good job too, adding plain details and doing a little of toning down of that printed brown dress. However, the harnesses worn to lock the neck, shoulders, chests and upper body, are a little too much for me. I don´t want to walk around looking a little suspicious like I´ve a revolver inserted in my harnesses. I don´t want to suggest.
Perhaps I can take some harnesses around the neck for they´d look like chokers, but that´s it, I don´t want to lock my whole upper part.
And now the riding boots. I love, love them! I´ve always adored gladiator ankle boots. Although they´re not really very flattering on me because I´m petite, when the gladiator booties became the trend, I´m a big fan.
I find these towering gladiator riding boots from Herve Leger more gorgeous from behind. The straps around and up the legs are really sexy, however, the bland front view is unflattering. The brown ankle boots are an exception though, I love how they look 360 degrees.
I´m a big advocate for fashions that can be worn by real women. So I ask, where are you gonna wear this?
