Trench coat is huge on the runway for spring 2021. I don´t know if I should be happy or sad about this news.
Trench coat is back on trend!
Happy ´cause all I have to do is dust off my good old trench coat and I´ll be wearing something trendy this spring.
Sad because it´s the same trench coat that I´ve been talking about for a decade now. I mean, if you´re blogging about fashion for a decade, you´ll come at a point when all you do is simply parroting yourself. And repeating yourself over and over again can be boring. How many times have I blogged about trench coats?
Let´s take a look at some of them:

So why trench coat?
If you look back at the history of this style of coat, you´ll realize that given its origin – the British army uniform – there´s really no other type of coat that can beat it when it comes to sharpness and elegance. It simply is at the top.
So if ones says that trench coat is a fashion staple, it´s hard to argue.
1. The Short Trench Coat
Short trench coats were particularly trendy in 2015. If you happened to own a trench coat which hem hits high on your thigh, the best way to wear it is with skinny trousers.
If yours is in beige or muted color, consider creating tonal outfits with it. This means that white, light washed gray jeans, or even pastel colored trousers are you´re best pick to wear with the trench.
2. The Modern Trench Coat
There´s a reason why this is call the modern trench coat. It´s quite versatile and can mimic different styles and silhouettes of coat depending on how you wear it. The trench coats we see on the spring 2021 runway is similar to this – big, roomy, long, and oversized.
While the classic trench promises sharpness and accuracy, this modern trench coat is selling you comfort.
3. The Single-Breasted Trench Coat
The classic trench coat is double-breasted. This year though we´re seeing more of the modern single-breasted trench coats. This new style is easier to wear unbottoned, specially on days when the temperature fluctuates from cold to warm, then cold again.
This single-breasted trench coat relies more on its notched lapels and belt for beauty.
4. The Olive or Navy Green Trench coat
Mimicking the trench coat look seen on Nina Ricci´s spring 2021 runway, it´s clear that olive and navy green are important colors for the coming season when it comes to this coat trend.
I have an olive colored coat and I found it to be very versatile and effortless. It goes well with most of my trousers.
5. The Trench Jumpsuit
Although not entirely versatile and practical, the trench jumpsuit is quite a looker. It´s sharp and attractive, something that´s not easy to miss. If you´re looking to add an accent piece to your spring wardrobe, this may interest you.
Just remember, although super stylish and smart, it can make using the restroom challenging. It´s something to keep in mind when investing on a special piece such as this trench jumpsuit.
I guess the takeaway for this blog post is, given the current economy, if you already have a trench coat, be creative and re-wear it. There´s really no need to buy a new one, unless you have enough financial cushion to stay safe and confident throughout the year.
Have fun with your trench coat.
