What work outfits should you wear if you have big hips? This is the question that bothers one of our readers and it´s understandable because if there´s a place you´d like to look smarter and more confident than ever, it´s at work.
I have to wear a suit to work, but the traditional suit with pencil skirt looks terrible in me because of my hips. The pencil skirt is very tight in the hips and large in the waist. Slacks makes my “behind” looks very big. I don’t know what I should wear to work. Can you give me some advice? Thanks. ~ Gracie
Dressing up your body type is the integral part of styling. No matter how much you keep up with the trend, without considering your body type, it defeats the purpose. But this is even more important when it comes to dressing up for work. The need to feel confident with what you´re wearing is higher. Everyone has her own weakness and in styling, you strive to hide that weak side and highlight the beautiful sides. For Gracie, she needs clothes that minimize her hip size.

A-Line Skirt Suits

A-line skirts are the perfect skirt for women with big hips. It fits around the hips but not too fitting for everything, it creates a flare starting from the second hips widening down to the hems. This is a great alternative to pencil skirt. There are many types of A-line skirt – the simple a-line, the pleated, the a-line with fish tail, and the skater style.
The gray a-line skirt above has layered pleats while the black a-line skirt is a knee-length with subtle fish tail. Skater a-line skirts are great for slim figures but adds weight to curvy shapes.

The Blazer
Opt for blazers that fit right and hit around your first hip, avoid oversized long jackets as these jackets will emphasize the size of your hips. If you can´t find the perfect a-line skirt suit, shop for the skirt first and then look for a blazer to team with it. If looking for the perfect match is difficult, you can look for a jacket with different color such as a gray jacket to go with a black a-line skirt, or a light gray jacket for a dark gray skirt.
The Tops
Choose bright tops with striking details such as ruffle or bow, to layer under your jacket. The top will serve as the show stealer bringing attention to your top and away from your bottom.
The Dresses
You can wear work dresses to the office too provided it´s a dark-colored a-line dress, has a tighter top and a looser bottom, with striking designs at the top. You can wear over the dress a cropped fitted jacket.
The Slacks
Look for slacks with boot cut, flared leg or wide leg style, low-rise, and are fitted just below the waist. Avoid pants with pleats, side pockets, and detailing at the back. Flare pants will balance the width of your hips while the low-rise style will cut its size.
