I think I mentioned it a few times here in the blog how much I adore polka dots. Just like one reader pointed out to me in an email, no matter how much we age we still feel young deep inside. A love of dots is an expression of our youthful soul. Fortunately, there are many ways a matured woman can rock this print, and she can even wear it professionally.
If you´re wondering how to pull off polka dot print for the office and still look business-ready, here are six style inspirations.
1. Flocked Polka Dots Dress

To say that “I love this dress” is an understatement. I. Covet. It. It´s like a fit and flare little black dress given an update with an illusion of sheer bolero in polka dot print.
If you can get away with a little higher-than-the-knee skirt in the office, wear it bare-legged teamed with deep gold pumps. Otherwise, wear black opaque tights and black pumps with it.
2. Polka Dots Contrast Blouse

With this star and polka dot print contrast blouse there´s no reason to look dull in black and white monochrome for work. This blouse is designed with professional and feminine elements in mind. It has a whimsical bow accents, extension of the blouse´s contrast-print collar. Complete the look with black pointed-toe pumps.

3. Pleated Polka Dots Skirt for Work

Get the Look: Giambattista Valli Skirt, Long Sleeve Turtleneck
Although this cute little pleated skirt looks best for party events, you can also wear it to work provided you layer it with black tights. It may be too short for work if you wear it as is. You can team it with any black fitted blouse and you can layer over a pastel cardigan. In summer, partner it with opaque tights and pumps. In winter, finish it up with warm tights and black knee-length boots.
4. Swing Polka Dot Skirt

How do you wear a swing skirt to the office? Definitely not with black ankle boots. But you can dress this 60s polka dot swing skirt professionally for work with a white blouse, black blazer and black pumps, or with black fitted top worn tucked in and layered with beige or pastel cropped cardigan.

5. Ruffled Polka Dot Pencil Skirt

Get the Look: Saloni Anabelle Skirt
This polka dot pencil skirt reminds me of the blog post I wrote, how to look romantic in a knee-length pencil skirt, last month. I don´t think it´s a violation of your company´s work-ethic code to bring romance to the office once in a while. But I suggest adding smart pieces to the look such as a fitted black button down or a three-forth-sleeved formal top, and black pointed pumps.
6. Polka Dot Simple Pants

Have you seen the movie, The Amazing Spider-Man 2: Rise of Electro? Early in the movie Gwen Stacy (played by Emma Stone) had a small talk with Max Dillon (Jamie Foxx), an electric engineer in their company, in an elevator. She was wearing a professional yet super cute work outfit. As far as I can remember, it was a pair of polka dot pants teamed with a bright top and white blazer (or a white top and bright blazer).
When I found this simple polka dot pant, I immediately knew that it´s perfect to recreate Emma Stone´s outfit. Try it with a black top and a yellow blazer. Or experiment with pastels and neutrals.
Are you a fan of polka dot? Would you wear it to the office?
