Have you been looking for ways on how to make your skin glow naturally at home? These ten tips are the things I learned from my own quest for a healthy skin.
When it comes to makeup, I`m a minimalist. I don´t like wearing layers and layers of cake-y foundation and sticky lipgloss. It makes me feel uncomfortable, as if I`m not being myself.
So my approach to beauty is putting on minimal makeup and focusing on the base—my skin complexion.
I`m a firm believer that although makeup will enhance our appearance, it will only be able to do its job if we have good skin. And yet the paradox is, the more we wear makeup, the more that we might damage our skin.
Since my preferred everyday look is a no makeup makeup look, it only makes sense for me to invest more on making your skin glow naturally at home so that when I do put on makeup, I`m able to achieve what I want.
These are the things I do to make my skin glow naturally at home:
Table of Contents
1. Eat healthy.
Having an oily skin, I have to pay attention to what I eat. Eating the wrong foods will quickly cause breakouts on my face. And when there are breakouts, no amount of concealer can effectively hide them.
I avoid refined sugar from cake, muffins, white bread, chocolates, ice-cream and sweets. Although I enjoy fast food, I limit my dining at fast food restaurants to once a month or once in two months. I´ve stopped consuming dairy products from cow, stopped eating processed meat, and avoided pizza altogether.
Organic vegetables and protein from grass-fed beef and organically raised chicken and eggs are the regulars for my daily meals.
2. Drink more water.
As I´ve mentioned in #1, I avoid refined sugar. That includes sweetened drinks too. I only drink water, and I drink often. In fact, I carry a bottle of drinking water wherever I go. A well-hydrated skin is a healthy skin.
3. Moisturize and apply SPF several times a day.
I started applying sunblock lotion on my skin in my early thirties. It´s already a bit late, I know, but moisturizing and applying SPF several times a day, every day, has helped my skin immensely in reversing the damage that my carelessness in my 20s has caused. Now in my early 40s, I barely have fine lines on my face.

4.Exercise.
The older I get, the more responsibilities I have in my life. Every day is busy and finding time to exercise is a challenge. What helps me big time though is not owning a car. Since I don´t have a car, I have to walk every day all the time. I walk to run errands, to take my son to school, and to the train station if I want to go to the nearby bigger city.
Walking is a very effective exercise that will not only keep us healthy, it will also help improve our skin appearance. We only need 30 minutes of walking a day to stay healthy. But for someone like me who doesn´t own a car living in a small city where owning a car is a necessity, I get to walk more than 30 minutes a day. That´s a lot of time to sweat while also getting things done.
5. Get some sun.
There was a time when I avoided the sun because I was too scared to get wrinkles. But then I started breaking out on my chin more and more. After doing some research, I learned that in order to have a healthy skin, we need vitamin D. And we get vitamin D from the sun.
Of course I don´t stay under the sun until I bake. In fact, I don´t sunbath. But I no longer fear the sun. When it´s sunny outside, I just wear sunglasses and a hat, and then I enjoy my walk under the sun.
I´ve also started taking vitamin D3+ K2 as a supplement. This is highly recommended specially if you don´t get enough sun during the winter.

6. Carefully choose your makeup products.
As I´ve mentioned earlier, I don´t like the feel of wearing makeup on my skin. It makes me feel uncomfortable and itchy. But I do like how I look when I´ve some makeup on. So I decided to carefuly pick the makeup products that my skin will tolerate well.
So yes, finding the right products for my skin take time and money, and oftentimes it´s a trial and error, but when I do find the products that I love, I stick to them.
7. Wear foundation only occasionally.
The biggest benefit of investing time, money and effort in having a healthy skin is, you don´t need to wear foundation all the time!
So for my everyday no makeup makeup look, I moisturize, apply SPF, apply a tiny amount of concealer under my eyes, apply eyeliner, apply some natural hues for eye shadow, and then finish off with my favorite papaya ripe lipstick. This is my go-to makeup even for my youtube videos.
The only time I wear foundation for my makeup is when it´s for an elegant party or event, and I´m dressed to the nines, which happens rarely.
8. I do face massage.
I´ve started doing face massage for a few months now as I look for natural ways to delay wrinkles. Now, I highly believe that regardless our age, everyone can benefit from gentle facial massages if we are aiming for a radiantly fresh complexion.
9. I avoid stress.
If I´m anxious, sad, overworked, unhappy and stressed, my skin looks dry and dull. There´s a direct corellation between how we feel and how our skin looks. So although life is full of daily stresses, worries and pressure, I´ve learned to get my stress under control.
Unlike when I was younger when I used to work myself until I dropped, I now pay attention to not overreaching my limit. So when I feel tired at the end of the day and there are still some chores undone, I tell myself that I´ve done enough for the day.
After dinner, I clean the kitchen. After that, I set time to relax and destress before I go to bed. That just means lounging cozily on our sofa in the living room while reading a novel, watching a good movie, or just chatting with my husband.
10. I try to get enough sleep.
I`m a night owl so most of my life I was always extremely productive late at night. I have lived my life this way for many years. But now that I´m in my early 40s, I decided to reset my Circadian rhythm, go to bed earlier than I used to, and get a good night sleep of at least 7 hours. I noticed that not only am I sharper during the day with a high level of energy, I also have that glowing skin. This is very true when I get 8 to 9 hours sleep.
I now prioritize my sleep. It takes a lot of effort from my part as I really enjoy staying late, but I try to stay to my newly set Circadian rhythm because I also enjoy the benefits that I reap during the day from a good night´s sleep, as opposed to dragging myself and just getting over my day when I didn´t have enough sleep.
So these are the things you can do to make your skin glow naturally at home. Makeup and skincare products are just a part of it because it´s entirely a lifestyle.
