Kate Middleton. What is the first thing you think of when hearing her name? Princess, Lucky Girl, Her Style, Met her Prince at College, Royalty? There’s probably more things mentioned, but we will keep that list short for this article.
One thing that can be said about her style is that she keeps her clothing simple and classic. She knows the trends and the fashion. However, she doesn’t let the trends and fashions rule her.

Ladylike Looks
During her charity tours and other Princess appearances, Kate Middleton loves to dress in simple solids, mostly coat dresses that can keep her warm from Britain’s sudden changes in weather yet still be stylish. She keeps these simple rules in mind:
1. Comfortable dresses and comfortable pumps
2. Solid colors with little to no embellishments
3. Accentuate the waist
4. Highlight the outfit with a fascinator (the little headpieces worn delicately to the side)
5. Dresses or skirts must hit at the knee or an inch above the knee
Looking at her photos, I find it fascinating that she plays up her curves with pleated skirts, peplums, and flared A-Line skirts. She knows she’s not the most voluptuous gal but she knows what silhouettes will give her a curvier figure.
Classics and Workhorses
When we look at Kate Middleton we do not see a simple girl. We see a beautiful woman who knows clothing are investments. There are certain pieces that never go out of style and pieces that will work the most in making a normal young girl appear more mature, more well-mannered, and more in place with higher society. She has risen far higher in society than any of us have ever seen and I think you can see how Kate knew exactly how she could create a rapport with dukes, duchesses, kings, queens and even presidents of the world. Through her clothing, of course.
What are the classic pieces Kate lives by:
1. Well tailored outfit
Clothing that fits you well will give you a more put together aura. Your shirt should not be too tight or too large. Your skirt should not gape anywhere nor should it be made like second skin.
2. Classics that never go out of style
Tweed or boucle are the epitome of dressing classic. I would also put lace in the same category. Kate knows a well made tweed jacket will elevate her maturity yet she purposely chosen a floral collar trim and a cut that accentuates her waistline. Likewise, the beautiful blue dress is highlighted with the right amount of lace that does not age her beyond her years.
3. Blazer for any occasion
A blazer will work well for work or a more festive event.
High Street Style
1. Meeting President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama – Reiss Bandage Dress £175 ($273.29 US)
2. Post Wedding Outfit – Zara Blue Polyester Pleated Dress £58 ($90 US)
3. Polo Match Outfit – Libélula Rebecca Shirt Dress £290 – £199 on sale ($465 – $320 US)
What is high street fashion? These are often what retailers are called that supply to the general public. These retailers are usually located on the main streets of a city and offers readily available and affordable styles.
Even though she is now a princess, she still dresses in high street fashion. I think the public adores her because of this. She does not have an inflated sense of worth even though most people probably expected her to.
Royal Glam
This is what makes her the ultimate Fairy Tale Princess- the way she can transform so naturally from Pretty Young Thing to Glamorous Celebrity. For events that require a gown, Kate chooses light fabrics usually in a solid color. She also chooses a style that accentuates her waistline, pleats to create movement, and minimal embellishments. She also loves to show off her arms choosing sleeveless or cap sleeves. Usually very conservative with her necklines, she often goes for daring necklines for these special occasions.
I hope everyone enjoyed Kate’s style dissection! I really had a ball researching and detailing Kate’s fashion style. It is very fascinating how she never fails to look stylish just like the princess she is.
Absolutely love her style!
