If you want to create a polished look that is effortless and speaks of maturity, calmness and femininity, learn how to wear shades of soft neutrals.
One of the trends for spring and summer that I am currently loving is the soft neutrals. Some neutral colors seen on the runway are beige, peach, shades of ivory, light tan, pressed rose, gold, gray and light shades of pink. They have a calming effect. These colors are very feminine and polished.
Neutrals can be used to emphasize a print or color on your outfit, or it can be used to tone down an otherwise bold and strong print or color.
However, if you want to create an effortless look and a grown-up girl impression, opting for a head to toe neutral outfit or even mixing a few shades of neutral colors are the best way to achieve that.
Let´s explore some of the way that you can wear neutral colors for spring and summer.
1. How to Wear Soft Neutrals with a Hint of Print
Some women are afraid to try wearing the neutral colors because they worry that these colors may make them look older than they actually are. That fear is valid, ladies. I used to think that way. However, I found that to avoid looking too matured in neutrals you should try mixing a solid neutral separate with a cute printed separate that is still in a neutral shade.
Take a look at this camisole featuring multi-colored print in beige. Although striking, the print isn´t too bold to clash with your neutral trousers. Suddenly the eye is drawn to the top, before it easily travels down to the hems of your trousers. This will make you look taller.
2. Mixing Soft Yet Contrasting Neutrals
The idea here is to mix three or more neutral colors in an outfit. A pair of beige trousers will hightlight your black tank. Some ivory sandals will ensure that your vertical line isn´t cut and your legs look longer. A gray clutch will add interest to the look.
3. Try the Beige Chine Dress
Choosing a neutral dress such as this beige silk chine is probably the quickest way to wear the nuetral color trend. But you don´t have to accessorize the look purely with neutral accessories. Aside from some wine sandals, you can also add a bright colored bag such as a pink shoulder bag, or a neutral print such as an animal print satchel.
Feel free to break the monotony.
4. Let Your Bag Guide You When It´s Time to Wear Soft Neutrals
Woven bags are again big this season and they often come in neutral colors. Use your bag as the focal point of your look. Choose a dress or a set of separates that is either lighter or darker than the shade of your bag. It´s like choosing the right backdrop for the stage so your bag can take centerstage.
5. How to Wear Soft Neutrals with a Beige Trench Coat
This outfit is a testament that layering neutral on neutral can be very, very chic! Here we see at work the layering of beige, sand and calico. Gray is also present through those subtle snake print sandals.
So if you´re teaming sand color jersey top with some calico trousers for a casual look, you can quickly polish it up with a stunning beige trench coat.
6. Quickly Add Soft Neutrals to an Outfit with a Straw Hat
Another thing that I´m obsessed with every summer is the straw hat. Worn with any day outfit, it quickly adds some boho elements to the look. Since I´m also a lover of neutral shades of white — not the bright white but shades of ivory white — teaming the straw hat with a neutral white outfit is my go-to summer look.
I like that it looks clean, fresh and down-to-earth.
7. Gold is the Season´s Most Luxurious Soft Neutral
Gold is another gorgeous choice of neutral for this season. A good dose of shimmer tempered with subtle stripes will look nice on a sunny day, especially if it´s as freeing as this bandeau top and high-waisted, wide-leg pants set.
Adding a neutral colored fringed bag and some slides will make this look effortless.
8. Neutral Tailoring is Chic and Effortless
This is probably my most favorite look among these featured neutral looks. I love the comfort of neutral tailoring worn with a casual off-white or gray t-shirt, and teamed with some matching Shiana shorts. The loose fit isn´t only comfortable, it´s also effortlessly chic. And of course, the high-rise shorts keep the whole thing stylish.
Some simple strap sandals and yet another neutral colored bag are all you need to finish the look.
9. The Beige Silk-Crepe Top
I am currently seeing the comeback of twist back sleeveless tops. This may be a trend to keep an eye on. Here we have another beige silk top worn with a matching beige straight pants and some sandals. Add a tailored beige jacket and you´re work-ready.
Why is „matching“ seems to be the rule in wearing neutrals? Well, that´s probably because going tonal is always stylish.
10. The Rust and White Polka Blouse
And this is my second most favorite from all the looks featured here. I always love balloon sleeves, as well as batwing, puffy, bell and bolero sleeves. So that´s only natural for me to fall for this look. This is the way grown ups wear polka dot, I should say.
So we have here a rust and white dotted top with balloon sleeves worn with some white capri pants and tan strap high heels. Note how the neutral straw bag with leather straps naturally pulls everything in the look together.
11. Opt for a Soft Neutral Maxi Dress for Evening Events
For an evening look, seriously consider a Champagne satin dress such as this one. Not only is its Moonlight color very trendy, but this is surely a trend that will never fade. The maxi style is timeless and its close neck and draping tye ribbon, plus its puffy bishop sleeves all make this dress irresistible.
This is truly the most elegant way to wear the neutral color trend this season.
