When I was a little girl, my outfits were mostly covered with frills and ruffles. The more girly it is, the better. I`m sure you would agree with me that most moms do dress their little girls with the most girly of pieces, right? Although there are some little girls who are rebels and refuse to were very girly outfits, for most girls not only do they let their moms dress them up, they also enjoy wearing them.
But how do we transition the ruffles from a toddler-y/girly wardrobe to a more mature wardrobe that is age-appropriate? Are ruffles the most versatile or do they simply don´t age?
Ruffles are again back to the spotlight and I can see many gorgeous ruffled pieces popping everywhere. Today let´s examine how can we wear ruffles without looking childish, trying hard or over-the-top, and what pieces are actually wearable (as adults) for 2020-21.
It´s no secret that I`m a huge lover of polka dots so that´s kindá the reason why this dotted top tops my list. But there are also other elements that I like about it – its bell long sleeves, the ruffle trims on sleeves and neck, its super cute bow, and its overall delicate vintage appeal. It looks great worn tuck in a high-waisted A-line or pleated skirt, as well as worn untuck with a pair of black trousers.
Anything that can transition from work to play always wins my approval. Suffice it to say that this vintage ruffled polka dot top will do well for office attires, formal or casual smart outfits.
Is it just me or did you also notice how roomy, shapeless tunic dresses are trending lately? Well for me, I noticed that the older I get the more that I love this type of silhouette because of how comfortable it is! But I noticed that even younger ladies are fond of wearing loose fitting tunics. It´s probably because it´s fun to swing.
This tiered casual mini dress from Joteisy has ruffle trims on its short sleeves. But if you´re like me who loves to collect loose dresses such as this, check out this Babydoll pleated mini dress from Bigyonger.
Summer has recently ended on my side of the world so my rompers are currently neatly tucked away. But even if I should be shopping for knitted clothing, I am still almost tempted to get this fabulous ruffled romper. Ha! I love the bell sleeves, the ruffled bottom half, and the overall feminine sex appeal. Stunning.
There´s no denying, this casual short dress is for summer. So if you happen to be enjoying a warm season, and you want to keep it feminine and trendy, then make sure to check out these dresses. There are many available. Not only is it ruffled, it also comes in a sexy wrap style.
It´s a cliche, yes, but this stunning jumpsuit from Calvin Klein proves that indeed, less is more. Off-the-shoulder, ruffled sleeves and bib are so strategically designed that you won´t ever doubt if this piece is absolute class.
Here we go again! Yes, another ruffled polka dot top. It has a crew neck with ruffles, and its retro style means that it´s made to be worn with anything high-waisted. Trousers or skirts, the choice is yours. But make sure you wear it tuck in a high-waisted bottom half.
Need a dress to impress for a cocktail party? Try this metallic print ruffle cocktail party dress that´s sleeveless and with ruffle trimmings. It also boosts an asymmetrical sheer ruffle hem. If chocolate brown doesn´t flatter you, don´t despair. It´s available in four colors.
Many women love this lemon print, spaghetti strap mini dress featuring asymmetrical ruffled hem. I would probably layer it with a black cardigan or black suit jacket for fall, but in summer, it can be worn as is or layered with a lightweight yellow or green bolero.
This flared mini skater skirt is widely on trend. Available in many, many colors, it´s so fun to mix and match for summer or fall outfits. In fact, I have several versions of this skirt which I wear even in winter, layered with warm black tights. Really, pleats and ruffles are irresistible.
Oh, what a dress! The oversized ruffles on the right hip, which skims down to the thigh, balances the elegance of the one-shoulder on the left. It´s a power red dress. Very, very beautiful. But if you worry of keeping the dress in place, specially those of us who have smaller busts, don´t worry. It comes with detachables slim straps.
Here´s a feminine chiffon dress with ruffles on the hem. It has a conservative look. In summer, you can wear it as is. But in colder seasons, you can layer it with a pink coat. Choose a trench coat with simple lines for elegance.
A dress that can easily join my collection of lightweight dresses, I love its sheer-sleeves, ruffled accents, flouncy cuffs, and a tie neck keyhole cutout. It´s feminine, yes, but can also be quickly toughend up with a pair of fierce ankle boots.
And of course, last but not the least, another ruffled swing dress! This super cute dress is also available in many colors. It has ruffles trim and swing hem, and a sexy cutout on the back, also trimmed with tiny ruffles. Wear it with flip flops in summer, or with knee-high boots in fall.
So these are the ways you can wear the trendy ruffles without sacrificing elegance or maturity. Tell me, aren´t they easy to style and totally wearable?
