It´s fun to know that not only can we transition our basic (classic) pieces from spring to fall, but also the bright colors! One color trend that clearly is here to stay, is the mustard yellow. Mustard is a big trend for spring and summer but remember, it´s been around since last year´s fall/winter.
Thus, once the most favorite season of the year comes, there´s no need to acquire more for your closet, simply re-do what you already have. Here´s how to wear the mustard yellow trend for fall/winter 2012.
Fall 2012 Runway: Lela Rose & Nicole Farhi
Pair a mustard yellow separate with dark. Whether it´s a bandage mustard skirt or a mustard yellow shirt that you want to style, team it with something dark. A mustard skirt will look great with a gray/black sweater while a black skirt will complement your mustard long-sleeved shirt. Pick a pair of shoes in dark hues and style with neutral colored tights or black socks to make the bright color really pop out.
Fall 2012 RTW: Lauren Moffatt
Wear mustard yellow paired with soft nude prints. Lauren Moffatt used lots of neutral colors for her youthful back to school looks. She also incorporated mustard yellow in her collection pairing them with soft prints in nude background. Take a pair of oxford shoes to complete your mustar-nude combo.
Fall 2012 Runway: Matthew Williamson & Nicole Farhi
Style up a mustard yellow dress. Be it a peplum style, an A-line, an empire waist or a belted sleeveless, wearing a mustard dress is the quickest way to rock this trend. Go bare-legged on warmer fall days and layer up your mustard dress with tights and jacket when it cold.
Fall 2012 Runway: Betsey Johnson & Matthew Williamson
Wear mustard in an unusual way. Mustard looks great with black but it also look as great with other bright colors. The key here is chanelling your personality, being more creative and fun. Wear the color in a way that others won´t expect, such as finishing a mustard suit and skirt with diagonal print sheer black tights, tall black boots and a peek of black turtleneck sweater underneath. Play with other bright colors that you already have in your closet, apply the colorblocking technique.
