1. Jeans 101: What are the Different Types of Jeans
Jeans come in a variety of styles to cater to different body types. In fact, there are also classic types of jeans and some high fashion jeans that you can choose from. So it’s important to be familiar with them.
Are you the skinny-jeans type? A boot-cut loyal? Or a flare-cut lover? Do you at times grab your boyfriend`s pair?
Without further ado let´s dive straight into understanding “which jeans are you?” and “how to always look good in jeans”.
Straight Cut Jeans
Straight Cut Jeans are classic. The circumference of these jeans is consistent from the hip to the leg. The standard straight-leg width is 17 inches. They’re very versatile.
If your straight-cut jeans are in dark rinses, they make a dressy look. If they’re in washed or distressed, they create a relaxed appeal.
Flare-cut jeans
This jeans are also known as Trouser Jeans . They´re fitted at the waist and down to the leg, and then flared to the hem.
A smart version of these trouser jeans can fit smartly at the work place.
If you prefer a low-rise flared jeans instead of high-waist, check out the Gemma Trouser from True Religion. However, if you lean more towards the black flare jeans instead of the dark stone for work, I recommend the Black Swan from James Jeans.
Boot-Cut Jeans
The bootcut jeans are similar to the straight-cut style but are slightly wider from the calf down. These jeans are sometimes known as the flare cut, only that it´s less roomy around the ankle.
This style is easily dressed up with a pair of heels or can be made ultra-smart with a pair of boots.
Boyfriend Jeans
It happens to anyone. Sometimes you do just wanna wear your boyfriend’s pair of jeans, or a similar to his. Boyfriend jeans are slouchy, often distressed and with rolled cuffs.
These jeans look its best when paired with feminine tops and girly shoes.
Skinny Jeans
Ladies jeans, anyone? They’re the most feminine and the sexiest of all jean types. No question about that.
Sadly, this type of jeans isn’t made for everyone. Since the jeans highlight the hips and the rear; they don´t flatter the pear-shaped body type. But if you’re blessed with a curvy physique and long legs, then this is the style for you!
High-waist Jeans
Clearly, high-waist jeans are the most fashion forward. These look great with the top tucked into the jeans and belted.
The jeans can be skinny are flared. Wear them with heels to create an illusion of even more height. Alternatively, you can go for a pair of bold flats.
So tell me. Which type of jeans are you?
2. How to Wear Jeans According to Your Body Type
There are other essential things to remember in wearing jeans other than choosing the right type that suits your style. The most important is going for jeans that fit right. Bear in mind these tips the next time you shop for your oh-so-sexy jeans.
Curvy
If you’re curvy, never ever go for jeans that are too tight or super low-cut that sits at mid-hip. If you go for skinny jeans, make sure that there’s enough room for your bottom and half of your legs to breadth, avoid skinny jeans that are too tight in these areas.
You need jeans with at least a bit of stretch and straight or flared legs.
Heavy Bottom
If you’re blessed with too much cushion on your rear, don’t go for super skinny jeans, high waist and very wide legs, they simply emphasize the largeness of your bottom.
Go for something dark; even wash preferably with a slight flare and stretch.
Flat Bottom
If you have a flat derrière, be careful in choosing jeans. Avoid jeans that are stiff, high waists and loose cuts such as boyfriend jeans because they show your lack of bumps.
You need to create the illusion of an existing derrière so opt for jeans with back pocket details. Choosing stretch jeans with slim legs that hug your bottom also help create this illusion. For more confidence, carry your boyfriend’s wallet on your back pocket.
Tummy
Anything super-low-rise or anything that buttons right close to your belly allows more than enough room for your tummy to bloat forward. Avoid these styles.
You need jeans that sit a little below your normal waist. It helps if your jeans are with higher waist band that stretches, the band will suck in your tummy.
Boyish
If you have a boyish figure, you would do right with jeans that are low-rise and straight cut. Behind must be fitted.
Short Torso/Long legs
If you have a short torso, you most likely have long legs. Avoid jeans that are high waist because they would emphasize the length of your legs and the shortness from your shoulders to waist.
You need jeans that are lower rise and a longer hemline.
Long Torso/Short Legs
Short legs are easy to spot; your duty then is to make your legs appear longer. You don’t need low-rise and baggy jeans; they make your legs appear even shorter.
You would do best if you opt for high-rise jeans or jeans that sit near your natural hip. You can wear belts to make emphasis on the upper waist area.
Don’t be afraid to try on jeans after jeans until you find the pair that fit right. Time and energy invested properly in searching for jeans that fit well definitely pays off.
Which jeans flatter your figure?
3. How to Wear Jeans and Look Stylish All the Time

For the six years that I lived and worked as a teacher in Thailand, I had never bought a pair of jeans. That´s because I found the weather too hot and humid for jeans. However, I did keep my favorite vintage pair of jeans that I would pull off whenever I wanted to strut a casual-smart look with jeans — my favorite bootcut jeans.
I found that jeans are the most versatile piece of apparel. And that there are three style secrets you can master in order to always look stylish and put-together in a pair of jeans.
Go Smart with Bootcut Jeans

We gave the bootcut jeans a new name — trouser-like shape jeans. You most probably own a pair already. Bootcut jeans are the smartest and most elegant jeans you can wear. It´s my well-kept arsenal in my closet.
Dress it up with a lean boyfriend blazer and some gorgeous heels. Keep your vertical line long by going for floor-skimming hem.
Opt for Flattering Dark Jeans

Dark jeans are more elegant than the light jeans; and they´re also the most slimming. It´s tempting to reach for those pair of black jeans whenever you want to look thinner. Afterall you can never go wrong teaming your black jeans with a white top, right?
However, remember that there are many, many options of dark jeans available in the market today. So there are still many ways you can have fun even if you decide to stick with dark jeans.
For example, you can style a pair of brown skinny jeans with neutral colors to bring out more of its elements. You can also keep things in your outfit chic and not boring with striking details such as a two-tone pair of pumps, stash of boho bracelets, and a statement clutch.
Elongate Your Legs

In order to achieve your longest possible vertical line with dark skinny jeans, tuck in your top and add a pair of low-vamp, pointed-toe stilettos. Dark, in itself, is slimming.
And if you want to maximize that vertical line effect? Match your shoes to the color of your jeans.
If you tuck your top, you’re allowing the eye a full view of your longest vertical silhouette. This is especially true if you´re wearing a high-waisted jean. And of course, the cigarette heels will continue to narrow your look.
4. How to Wear Jeans with a Basic Tee

Jeans and a t-shirt, they are staples that we all have in our closet and often turn to when we don’t know what to wear. Designers such as T by Alexander Wang and Bassike have mastered the plain t-shirt and made them all accessible to everyone.
But with wearing jeans and a tee, it’s all about the accessories. They can make or break the outfit. Some of our favourite fashion bloggers show how to style jeans and a tee by styling it with accessories!
The Golden Goodness
Joellen from Joellen Love rocks a simple white tee with a pair of black jeans but glams it up with some black brogues, some funky sunglasses and a gorgeous gold watch. 5. How to Wear Colored Jeans

Colored jeans are a trend many fashionistas love to wear. They´re a favorite piece for both fashion bloggers and stylish celebrities. You can create bright, trendy and fun looks with them with only a few style tricks and with minimal accessories. Colored jeans can be a single stand-out piece in a look.
The moment colored skinny jeans made waves in Hollywood and in the blogosphere, I quickly grabbed several pairs. Check out how I wore red skinny jeans.
It´s already a couple of seasons since colored jeans made a buzz and while we were initially told that we got to let our colored jeans be the dominant color in a look and to swear with only basic pieces to team with them, we´re now on the look out for new, more creative ways of wearing them.
Light Pink Colored Jeans
The technique I used for this first look is something I learned from Jena, JCrew´s creative director. It´s about using CONTRAST in putting colors, prints and patterns together. “This navy and burgundy striped sweater feels very prep school, but paired with a leopard cropped jacket, white button-down shirt and girly pink jeans, it brings together the influences”, says Jena.
Wear the navy and burgundy sweater over the white shirt and under the little leopard jacket. The white shirt, which is untucked, creates the contrast that will make the sweater pop up. Feminine, sporty and classic.
Rich Pink Colored Jeans
In order to embrace color without going too loud and too bold is by creating a casual look with your colored jeans. Team a pair of rich pink jeans with the safest item in your closet, a denim shirt or a denim cropped jacket for a not over-committing look.
Hot in Red Colored Jeans
Pairing a blue blouse top to your bright red skinny jeans is something not everyone would expect. Blue brings out the elements of red, and with green structured satchel, which is very of the moment, colorful trendy look. I suggest wearing black pumps to polish everything and put on a cute red necklace for a suave appeal.
Low-Key Yellow Colored Jeans
I love the playfulness and casualness of this look. The lace print vest from Alexander McQueen goes well with the yellow colored jeans and the soft neutral cardigan. I wanted to emphasize the color so I went for rich yellow pumps to go with the jeans as well. The black shoulder bag matches the tops´lace and brings contrast to the yellows.
Sexy Orange Colored Jeans
This look is a combination of three of my loves — black and white striped sweater paired with orange skinny jeans and tiny polka dot purse bag. There´s something really luscious in this outfit. With those sexy, very sophisticated black pumps, you´ve got all what it takes.
Pretty in Blue Colored Jeans
A classy-meets-casual look, I love the contradicting yet very interesting elements of this look. The casual white cotton t-shirt peeking out an orange statement jacket, and the peaceful aura of those jeans, are all perfect together to bring attitude. Let all the bright colors pop up by slipping into black half boots.
Bold in Green Colored Jeans
I can never have enough of this pattern-color combination — leopard paired with green. You will never go wrong pairing a leopard print with green skinny jeans. Complete the look with brown pumps and nude bag, and sprinkle some orange accessories in the look.
Team a Lace Top with Colored Jeans

If a lace dress isn´t your idea of spring, then opt for a top with just a subtle lace detailing to team with your colored jeans. You´re not working on the entirety of the trend but sprinkle it on the look enough to keep up with the season´s trend.
Choose an Optical Illusioned Colored Jeans

Remember the optical illusion dresses celebrities loved to wear to the red carpet? This art doesn´t stop in dresses, it extends even to the all-season trendy colored jeans.
Pair a Pink Colored Jeans with Striped Top

Spring stripes, when are we ever going to get tired of this pattern? Probably never as long as it is always revived as trend. A cute striped top, think zigzag stripes, will give your fave colored jeans a nice update.
Match a Polka Dot Colored Jeans with Cream Sweater

Wearing dotted detail on your colored jeans is probably an update that you least expected, but why not? Simply complete it with a comfy knitted sweater, add a blush shoulder bag and a white platform pump. You´re done! Never be intimidated with polka dot.
Put a Hand on Colored Jeans and Cutout Top

Give a really interesting update on an orange colored jeans by adding the perfect printed cutout top. If you choose a shoulder cutout shirt, make sure to wear in tucked in. Have fun and stand really high in platforms.
High-waist Skinny Colored Jeans with a Blouse

The ever fabulous skinny jeans are here to stay, and if they´re colored, they´re mega-trendy. Get your pair of colorful skinnies and match it with a blouse, tuck in. The tamed blousy look defines your derrière, your midsection and your shapely legs all at once. Wear a wide belt to give more definition to your waist.
High-waist Skinny Jeans with Drape Cardigan

Get a pair of blue washed skinny jeans, slip into your favorite tank and pop over it a drape cardigan. Dress it up with high-heel pumps or dress it down with a ballerina for a comfy yet stylish weekend outfit.
Which of-the-moment update would like to put your hands on this summer?
6. How to Wear Jeans: The High-Waisted Flare Jeans Style Guide

Incredibly flattering and gorgeous are high-waisted flare jeans because they give the illusion of additional height. They look their best if worn with high heels (a must if you are short) or bold flats (especially if you are tall). Nothing in between, steer away from kitten heels.
This more fashion-forward alternative is often worn belted for waist emphasis. They need to fit right with no gap in the waist, crotch or butt area.
However, high-waist jeans aren´t for everyone. If you have a short torso, wearing anything high-waisted is going to emphasize that. A good example is Michelle Obama. She has very long legs and very short torso. And yet, high waisted is apparently her favorite style. I wonder why none of her stylists has pointed that out to her?
Here´s how to wear high-waisted flare jeans .
The Luxurious High-waisted Flare Jeans

A pair of colored high-waisted flare jeans is very elegant. It requires only little and fewer colors to create that luxurious look. Wear it with a gray fitted long-sleeves, tucked-in. Then add some black open-toe pumps.
You need a thin brown belt to highlight your waist. I love this belt with bronze front buckle and woven design because it goes well with the color of the jeans. When styling a colored high-waisted jeans, remember to stick in three colors by going for brown handbag and brown sunnies.
The Happy Casual High-waisted Flare Jeans

I felt good creating this look because it´s full of colors! As you must know, flowers make people happy.
Because of the snag nature of high-waisted flare jeans, it´s a good idea to go for a cropped blouse. I like the effortless vibe of a cropped top with a high-waisted jean. I picked a yellow wedge sandal to add some flirt to the look. In fact, the flare hems of your jeans will allow only a glimpse of yellow straps and wedges every time you take a step.
The orange shoulder bag, the brown slim belt and the white wrist watch bring additional fun to the entire look.
The Trendy Vintage High-waisted Flare Jeans

The goal for this outfit is to create a vintage look with a pair of black high-waisted flare jeans. To achieve that, I paired the jeans with a classic white button-down shirt.
But to wear the white shirt as is, you´ll get a baggy look. To tuck it in, you may get a bulging unflattering look around the first hips. To make a blousy tuck in, you´ll have plenty of volume around your middle which may make you look bigger than you really are.
So I suggest folding the sleeves evenly up to the elbow and then push the folds up a little bit. Unbutton the last two buttons of your shirt and tie the ends at the waist to give it a vintage look.
I chose a killer bootie with embossed detail and up front cutouts to go with the jeans. A black alligator hobo bag gives this outfit a trendy attitude. And a hint of color is made possible by the necklace and bracelet set.
The Glamorous High-waisted Flare Jeans

To inject some Hollywood glam into an outfit is divine. A textured-jacquard flared jeans is a standout if worn with a sleek tucked-in, bead-embellished silk tank.
I added more shimmer to this outfit through a gold clutch bag. I also love how the Black Petals Necklace accentuates the tank even more and it matches the luscious ballerina flats.
This look is great if you are tall. If not, wear the look with a gray pump shoe.
The Rugged High-waisted Flare Jeans

Let´s play rugged once in a while, shall we? By wearing a washed 70s high-waisted flare jeans and pairing it with a flannel checkered shirt (with elbow patches), you´re creating a rugged look. But still in a chic way.
Roll up the sleeves, unbutton the shirt and tie the ends at the waist. You need a white tucked-in fitted tank to do this. A thick brown platform and dark brown slim belt are perfect to finish this look. Spice it up with some brown, beige and white bangles set. If you are tall, you can also wear this outfit with flat booties.
Tell me Creative Fashionistas, which way of wearing high-waisted flare jeans inspire you the most?
7. How to Wear Jeans: The High-Waisted Jeans for Fall
Have you noticed the dramatic come back of high-waisted jeans? My opinion is that high-waisted jeans are easier to wear in warmer months through fall. Think about it, when the temparature is freezing, you probably prefer to wrap your legs with tall high boots. And high-waisted jeans are just not made for that type of boots. Except if winter in your area still means warm, sunny days.
However, you can still get away with strutting the high-waisted jeans in fall as long as your toes aren´t left bared for a chilly evening.
This look seen on Victoria Beckham features a dark blue high-waisted jeans worn with a dark print button-down shirt. Notice how long her legs looked. It unravels the secret to how to lengthen our legs.
Elegant Mix with high-waisted flare jeans

If you too want to lengthen your silhouette by making your legs appear longer, it´s time to plan for your own high-waist flare jeans outfit. This look is about keeping things minimal but elegant.
Remember that dark colored jeans make your legs look thinner and longer. So if appearing thinner is your goal, then stick with dark washed jeans.
I found this dark grey and bright blue contrast sleeve top from Mango really gorgeous. Teaming it with the highwaist flared jeans just makes sense. I finish the look with a loafer platform pump and a black leather handbag.
Vintage Mix with high-waist flare jeans

You can also create a sweet vintage look with high-waist flare jeans. Team it with a red polka dot top which also embodies that strong retro appeal. Opt for nude platform pumps for your shoes to temper all the dots then add a great complementary handbag. The right oversize sunglasses can add a big difference.
Sophisticated Mix with high-waist flare jeans

This look is very close to what Victoria wore in the picture above. Make sure to choose the right shirt for you, something that complements your skin tone.
Wear it tuck in to draw the eye from your waist down to your shoes. Only wear the jeans with really high heels to achieve that long legs that you so want. Wearing flare with boxy flats doesn´t only make that area bulky, it also defeats the purpose of making you look taller. Keep things polished with matching clutch bag and sunglasses.
What do you think of Victoria Beckham´s outfit? Are you into high-waist flare jeans?
High-waist Flare with a Cropped Top

Show off a bit of your well toned midsection with a a high-waist flare and a cropped top. To define your midsection, wear a slim belt. If you´re not comfortable baring it, wear a nude undershirt; white or black undershirt would work too.
High-waist Flare with a Blazer

For an elegant, trendy look, wear a high-waist flare jeans matched with a blazer and a white tank. The glimpse of your pump´s sole and cigarette heels adds sophistication while a silver-studded slim belt defines your midsection and provides spice for the eye.
High-waist Colored Flare with a Blouse

Colored jeans are still trending widely and they now come in flares. Match a colored wide leg jeans with a blouse, tuck in, and define your midsection with a slim belt. Wear peep-toe pumps for a little flirty look.
8. How to Wear Jeans: The High-Waisted Jeans for Spring

For a warm spring day, Victoria Beckham created a retro vibe appeal with her light-washed flared denim. The moment the wind turns chilly, she swapped the light jeans with a dark high-waist flares done with layered top to keep her warm.
Miranda Kerr, on the other hand, created a less-is-more look with her flares, adding just a simple tee with a color pop blazer. If you too are digging for some flared jeans to wear this spring, here are three celebrity looks to inspire you.
Light Washed Flared Jeans with a Gray Tee

Victoria Beckham wore high-waisted 70s style flared jeans with a loose-fitting grey T-shirt, tucked in, and nude wedged shoes. If you want to evoke an exact retro-vibe, this 7 For All Mankind Georgia Trouser is perfect for you. It features classic zip fly, a vintage element.
An alternative is this flared jean from Mango featured in the look board above. Team it up with a gray tee. Go for fitted if you´re curvy or you can go for loose-fitting tee if you´re slim. Finish off the look with a pair of cute wedged sandals.
High Waist Flared Jeans with Layered Top

For a chilly spring day, do layering on top just as Victoria did. Look for a blue collared shirt to wear under a cropped knitted sweater. The pop of collars on your sweater is cute. This layering looks great with dark blue high-waist flared jeans. Go for platform pumps or high-heeled ankle boots for your shoes to make your legs look really long.
Dark Washed Flared Jeans with Pink Blazer

Miranda Kerr wore this look while jetting out of Australia following a week of promotions. But because it´s a minimalist ensemble, you can wear to other events too.
White and pink always blend well together so go for a white top to layer under a pink blazer. In order to bring out the color, add a pair of dark-colored flared jeans. Complete with a white handbag and nude sandals.
9. How to Wear Jeans: Get to Know the Types of Boyfriend Jeans
It took me a long time to find my perfect boyfriend jeans. But when I did, I wore it all the time. I wear it with high-top sneakers in winter and with loafers in summer.
But did you know that there are different styles of boyfriend jeans? If you too are hunting for your next perfect boyfriend jeans like I do, then I guess knowing which style of boyfriend jeans is best for you can come handy.
So here are four types of boyfriend jeans.
Mid Rise Skinny Boyfriend Jeans
This type of boyfriend jeans is almost similar to your normal skinny, midrise jeans which sits just above your rear, except that the legs are worn rolled up. This fall, try your skinny boyfriend jeans with a black leather moto jacket or a leather vest layered with a monochrome print sweater, and polished with a pair of cap-toe pumps.
Straight Leg Destroyed Boyfriend Jeans
They´re the boyfriend jeans that very much mirror your boyfriend´s style – distressed, straight-legged, and light washed. The´d look flattering with chunky sandals or ankle boots. This season, try wearing a destroyed boyfriend jean with a simple white tee and a striking floral print jacket. Pull your jeans together with a beige slim leather belt.
Relaxed Fit Boyfriend Jeans
This is a relaxed fit pair of boyfriend jeans which fitting is just a little more relaxing than that of skinny boyfriends. It´s usually cropped and you simply have to fold the cuffs twice or better yet, the jeans already boasts a folded pair of cuffs at times. Opt for something dyed or vintage washed for a fresh take on this type of jeans. Wear it with a simple t-shirt and style up with statement, attention-grabbing accessory.
Mid Rise Straight Leg Destroyed or Ripped Boyfriend Jeans

Straight leg boyfriend jeans are the fave of some celebrities such as Sienna Miller. This style takes the menswear trend to the next comfort level because of its medium-weight and relaxing fit. To create a girl-meets-boy effect, style the bottom with a girly peplum top or a feminine, embroidered blouse. Polish the look with pointed-toe pumps.
10. How to Wear Jeans: The Comfy Boyfriend Jeans Style Guide

As fashion evolves into “everything is possible”, we ladies enjoy the opportunity to steal fashion staples from a guy´s closet. The most memorable of this stealing trend is when Sharon Stone wore her husband’s crisp white shirt to the Oscars in 1998 paired with a Vera Wang lavender silk skirt.
It created a worldwide sensation and many women adored it. But it didn´t stop there. Katie Holmes started the boyfriend jeans trend when she was spotted for several times, in different versions, wearing this boyish jeans which led to it being one of the hottest trends in 2009.
Since then, boyfriend jeans never went out of style. It´s embraced by women of different ages because of its relax-meets-style mood so that while she feels comfortable running errands, she doesn´t have to sacrifice style.
Boyfriend jeans come in different interpretations but generally, they´re a pair of jeans that looks exactly like your boyfriend´s – loose fit, low-rise, cuffed hems. Here are some ways to wear your boyfriend jeans.

Wear Your Boyfriend Jeans with Matching Riding Boots and Belt

Look like a cowboy by wearing under your boyfriend jeans a pair of brown leather riding boots. Choose a leather belt that matches your boots and throw over a hat that speaks attitude.
Opt for Cute Suspenders

Chooce a tapered slim boyfriend jeans with braces such as this number from Levi´s for a very cool look. Wear with a plaid shirt and black ankle boots.
Add a Black Leather Jacket

Pair a simple gray shirt with your boyfriend jeans and wear over it a black leather jacket to toughen the look, as seen on Rosie Huntington Whiteley. Dress it up with ankle boots or dress down with muted flats.
11. How to Wear Jeans: The Slouchy Boyfriend Jeans for Fall and Winter
I bought a slouchy navy blue jeans and I love it. It’s so slouchy from upwards down and I don’t know how to wear it in autumn and winter. And please consider shoes too. Thanks. ~ Nash
Slouchy boyfriend jeans are a great way to steal from a man´s wardrobe. If you found the right slouchy jeans, you can easily dress them up with elegant pumps or down with casual smoking slippers or ballerinas. But not everyone can look great in this style of jeans. If you´re short, if you have long waist and short legs, or if you have flat bottom, you should steer clear of slouchy jeans.
