While shorts are still being sneered at when the topic of “outfits that impress” is on the table, they have in fact sartorially proven that they too, akin to LBD and con dresses which show off lots of legs, can be dressed up and are capable of demanding respect.
We´re widely aware of how Anne Hathaway blew the crowd away when she famously opted for shorts suit for the promotion of her film, “Get Smart” in London. But shorts with suits in dark shades aren´t the only way to wear dressy shorts. There´s a myriad of options.
Today, we´re featuring more creative and varied styling ideas on wearing dress shorts as seen on some of our favorite style icons, outfits that are runway-inspired.
Balance a Floral
This is how to wear bold florals this spring and summer. In this look, the pink dressy shorts balanced the boldness of the floral top while blending with its shades. Jayma Mays knows that it´s best to let the statement combo do the talking so she added only a few muted accessories – nude bangles and nude pumps.
Create Clashed Prints
I personally adore how Margherita Missoni achieved this daring but stylish clash of prints. If you plan to mimic this look, remember three things. First, choose the prints wisely. While we speak of two different prints here, make sure that they´re of the same family of colors while the sizes of their prints vary. If your shorts have tiny prints, choose a top with oversized or large prints.
Second, remember to tuck in. This is important to identify the transition of prints and to create some shape. Third, add basic accessories, steer away from printed shoes and bags. You already have a lot of things happening.
Play with Colors
Whitney Port looked both girly and flirty in this summer look. A blend of soft colors or chic colorblocking is the principle of this style trick. Maintain the vibe by adding statement and equally attention-grabbing accessories.
Opt for Elegance
Olivia Palermo revisited the classic feel of a little black dress only in a more modern and chic appeal. She always looks elegant in whatever she puts her hand on and this outfit is no exception. The high-waisted shorts and pointed pumps elongate more her legs. An all black combo, especially if worn tucked in, with the right accessories and classic pumps, is sophisticated.
The only thing I wouldn´t recommend in Olivia´s look is her posture. You certainly has a gorgeous outfit so don´s be shy, stand straight.
