I had an epiphany, I saw myself wearing a designer animal print jacket. But then I woke up and realized that it´s actually a leopard print cape and a pair of leopard print ankle boots which recently joined my animal print pieces collection. Perhaps one day, I would get myself a designer number, but while I still can´t afford, I´ll be settling for great but affordable animal print jackets.
Animal print jacket is a stunner, it beams enough elements of lux and style that many celebrities adore it. However, in real life, animal print can be frightening to style, it requires attitude and fierceness to pull it off. But as long as you know how to do it right, it takes only a couple of times and you´ll be comfortable wearing it. This time, I`m breaking down the ways to wear an animal print jacket as inspired from the runway and a couple of celebrity looks. From the left:
1. Wear an animal print jacket open over a beige top and black trousers
Animal print is by itself a statement, you need less to complete the outfit. Wear it open over a beige top, a light brown item is another option, paired with a black trousers and black shoes. Everything is laid back in order to draw the attention to your animal print.
2. Mix the animal print jacket with clashing solid colors
I love this way of wearing animal print jacket, this is similar to this Chic Outfit Idea of how to inject bold colors to animal print. As worn here by Victoria Justice, a leopard print jacket over a dark blue tank and vibrant red jeans in boots. The red jeans draw as much attention as the animal print jacket, a trendy way to tone down the print.
3. Give a hint of animal print in your jacket. wear over patterned brown dress
One fashion blogger accused Mischa Barton of wearing too much in this outfit which is said to be overwhelming. I disagree. In fact, I love the hot and edgy look of this combo. The patchwork of leopard, studs and leather for the jacket is a mix of flattering materials and the dress, while patterned, is subdued in dark brown. I don´t find it overcommitting at all because the colors worn are still neutrals.
4. Slip into a close neck, belted leopard print with skinny black pants and boots
This look is similar to the first, the only difference is about the jacket. This one is close neck and belted, everything else are low-key – black pants and black boots. No other light colors to complement the print, it´s a single piece to shine in this outfit. This is an example of a polished animal print look which is both feminine and powerful.
