There´s probably no other fashion blogger who can capture the real girly elements of a drop waist dress better than Wendy. She has since worn a drop waist dress twice for her blog, one is an orange dress for an evening affair and the other a striped dress for a casual any day outfit.
To be honest, since I gained confidence of my wardrobe I´ve steered clear of drop waist dresses. This is due to a painful experience I had in the past. When I was in high school, my parents sent me to a private boarding school. Most of the students who attended that school were well-off, or so I thought. We could hardly fit-in in the well-off category but quality education was my parents´ priority so they braved the expensive school fees for me and my siblings. But it also meant lesser budget for our clothing.
My parents couldn´t afford to buy me trendy clothes but my mom had a closet full of pretty dresses and separates that she accumulated when she was still single. We have the same slim built so she was confident I´d look good in her clothes. She passed down many of her dresses to me and the three that became my favorite were cute printed drop waist dresses. But while I wore my mom´s vintage dresses to school and social events, my schoolmates wore jeans and fitted tees. Because I didn´t look like I belonged to the group, I was always teased and bullied both by the mean girls and the mean boys in the campus. The bullying had a significant effect on me, I lost sight of the beauty of a drop waist dress.
But seeing Wendy look so fabulous in drop waist silhouettes made me remember my old love. I realized it´s time to let go of the past and to rediscover my love for this intriguing dress style.
Drop Waist Dress for Evening Event
Except for their color difference, this purple drop waist dress by Red Valentino is closely similar to Wendy´s orange dress. The flare skirt is well-balanced against the boxy frame. Its heavy cotton blend makes it practical and versatile.
You can wear this dress to an evening event in summer or you can layer it with cardigan and tights in cooler weather. Keep things polished by adding black accessories to the look – a black clutch, a black belt, and a pair of black pumps. While you can wear the dress just as a drop waist, adding a belt to cinch the waist will mimic a trumpet skirt.
Drop Waist Dress for Wedding Parties
I´ve featured here several beautiful wedding guest dresses but as surprising as it may, none of them were drop waist. Well, that´s about to change. I adore this dress for parties or garden weddings because of its combination of sweet faille dropped waist and feminine blush pink. Add a fitted black blazer to contrast with the silhouettes´ girliness. Then finish off with a smart pair of black pumps and a coveted black clutch.
Drop Waist Dress for Casual Events
When it´s time to have fun on a sunny, warm day, opt for a striped, cotton drop waist dress. It´s a simple piece that´s perfect to be styled with statement accessories such as a stunning pair of shoes, an it bag, trendy sunglasses, or fabulous jewelry. The result is a mix of two things – comfort and style.
What do you think of drop waist dresses? Would you prefer wearing it for parties or for a casual weekend?
