I’m having to do a speech for school and it’s formal. I was wondering if I could wear nude flats, a plain orange dress, jean jacket and an infinity scarf? Would that look okay? ~ Andrea
Hi Andrea! A jean jacket is never formal so I don´t think it will ever make your orange dress look formal enough for a speech delivery. An infinity scarf will overwhelm the dress and may distract the attention of your viewers. Also, an infinity scarf looks great with a cute street look but not with any formal, elegant dress. Flat shoes may look presentable enough but not as respectable as a pair of shoes with heels.
Instead, I advise you to go for a nude blazer to wear over your orange mono dress. Swap the nude flats with nude kitten heels if high heels aren´t your thing. It´s like stealing Mrs. O´s famous style. You know, Michelle Obama delivers a lot of speeches and she always wear kitten heels. She looks always formal and polished in them.
If you really want to add a scarf, opt for small (silk) scarf which you can tie in a french knot. Make sure to choose it in colors or prints that complement your orange dress. These include, tangerine, mustard, olympian blue, and rich green.
Remembering, your outfit should be pleasing and presentable enough to quickly earn respect the moment you go up the stage, but it should be nothing loud nor lousy that distracts the attention of your spectators. They should be able to focus on your speech.
Best of Luck,
