Growing up as a poor country girl in the Philippines, I was surrounded with coconut trees. And because we didn´t have much, we were creative. Coconut milk used for our main dish, coconut milk used for dessert, and cocunut milk for our beauty regimen.
My sister and I would peel some old coconut drupes using a bolo knife, cut the coconut shell into half, drink the juice, and then scrape the meat using a scraper. It´s hard work.
We´d then squeeze the scraped coconut meat until we get all its milk. We´d cook the milk in our dirty kitchen using some firewood, stir it occasionally until we´d get the coconut oil. We´s separate the crumbs from the oil using a strainer.
After all the work, we finally had a (yummy smelling) coconut oil to use for our hair and skin. We did get nice glowy hair and skin, but we smelled weird.
I still use coconut oil for my hair and skin regimen to these days, but I now use the non-smelling, fractionated coconut oil.
We all know that coconut oil is great for our skin and hair. But what we´re not familiar with is that coconut oil is also good for our teeth. I mean, seriously, did you know about that?
If I knew about it, I would have also used it for my teeth.
Dr. Ginger is a seasoned cosmetic dentist who created beauty products for our teeth out of coconut milk. The idea stemmed from the knowledge that oil is used to pull anything that is difficult to pull.
Applying the “oil pulling” technique, Dr. Ginger came with these products for teeth care – Coconut Whitening Pen and Coconut Mouthwash.
I imagine that this pen should remove tartar effortlessly. This product is all natural. It´s a delicious coconut-mint flavored gel to remove stains from your teeth brighten them + it will help maintain a healthy gum.
Disclosure: I am yet to try this product. I still have a good amount of home-made coconut gel, extracted and cooked like I did back in those days but only because I needed some coconut crumbs as toppings to the delicious sticky rice cake (Biko) I cooked for my husband. But hey, I´m definitely trying these products out.
Forget about bitter-tasting mouth sprays, or tongue-burning mouthwashes, an all-natural coconut-mint flavored mouthwash should serve as a better alternative.
Let me know if you´re up to try how effective are these natural dental products, they´re available at Free People.
