When I saw Teen Vogue’s fashion director Gloria Baume´s photo in pink mini skirt, white graphic tee layered over by a printed cardigan and pink ballet flats biking her way to a show during fashion week, I was completely convinced that my two loves – fashion and biking – go hand in hand.
Gloria Baume looked magnificent, fashionable and relaxed on her fashionista bike. I saw many creative fashion photos with cute girls maneuvering an equally gorgeous bike. Biking is definitely a fashion trend. Does it help that we´ve started seeing bikes on the runway early this year (think PPQ’s AW12 show)?
Dolce & Gabbana “The Animalier” Leopard-Print Bike
And yet, as if to tap my heart for animal print, Dolce & Gabbana released the ultimate summer accessory – a bicycle in leopard print.
The “animalier” bicycle features a female frame for front-side, a basket, a Dolce & Gabbana branded bell and leather seat. It will be available this summer in a limited edition at Dolce & Gabbana boutiques.
Now, this darling is definitely a “city bike”. First, it´s designer and it´s estimated to cost for about 3k, which makes you love to manuever it in the city, right?
And second, if you cruise around town wearing your perfect floral summer dress or dressy shorts, and while its wheels kiss the city pavements, you´ll NOT be mistaken as a blast from the wild.
Imagine … biking (with this Animalier bike) on a forested, country side.
But the main question is, are you willing to throw that much money, 3k dollars, for such a fashionista bike?
For me, the answer is “NO”. I don´t have that much money to splurge.
The Alternative – Fashionable and Affordable
But since biking is my favorite sports, I looked for a more affordable and still fashionista bike.
Fashionista Custom Deluxe 26, a customized women’s beach cruiser bicycle vanilla, is good-looking and is available for only a little over $200.
Fashionista Custom Deluxe 26, $279.95 Amazon.com
It features contour custom floral cruiser seat, velo stitching brown cruiser grips, and handmade wicker basket.
What I love the most about this bike is it´s trendy look – two toned, colorblocked feature – which is derived by integrating different color frame and rims. Nice and clean.
I don´t have this bike yet because I´m still saving for it but I´ll definitely have it delivered before it runs out of stock.
What about you? Which fashionista bike are you? The gorgeous designer or the affordable fashionista?
