Apparently, Philip Lim wanted to blend the cheerfulness of summer with the mystery of winter. For his Fall 2014 collection, he featured brightly colored patchwork shearlings, sweet pastels and gorgeous collage print dresses, some button down tops and roomy pants. But although the mixing of colors, textures and patterns is genius, I´d like to focus on the style ideas, as I am known to do in this blog.
I´m fascinated with Lim´s winter muse named Soleil. She seems to have a lot of depth, like she´s both graceful and fierce. She´s also edgy and I bet she can kick a**. I´m definitely drawn to her personality.
Here are five of the ways you can look as edgy and fiercely put-together as Soleil this fall and winter.
1. Pastel Jumpsuit with Knee High Lace Boots
I confess, when I wear pastels, I tend to wear them with other light shades. I feel like teaming them with black is just off. Well, I stand corrected. Soleil surely can rock a pastel jumpsuit with black, and some black knee high rocker boots at that, but she balanced it with a patchwork top which also has a large black somewhere on its print. That way, the ends of Soleil´s stems look like they actually belong with your body.

2. Army and Wrap Pants
In this look, Soleil showed us another way to rework the colored patchwork top. She wore it with straight shape wrap pants. How does shapeless becomes the new edgy? As you can see, she kept her line thin by keeping everything at the bottom in black, plus she put the pants in place with an army buckled belt.
3. Wine Topper with a Hi-Lo
Got a leftover from last winter´s wine cover up trend? Don’t dispose them just yet, ´cause you can throw it over a high-lo piece this coming winter. Remember from my last post how Banana Republic redefines the hi-lo trend fall? It seems that they got the memo from Philip Lim. Here, in this look, Lim dressed Soleil in a black piece which is a contrast of silk and leather.
4. Futuristic Belt with Oversized Coat
Still got a piece of last season´s oversized boxy coats? How would you rework it for this winter? Phillip clearly isn´t done with his love affair with menswear coats. But before you could ask that question, here´s the answer – cinch the waist of your manly oversize with a wide futuristic belt as seen here Soleil.

5. Pair up your leather jacket with tailored trousers
Honestly, I always wear black leather jacket with denim jeans. But seeing how Soleil carried this unlikely ensemble – a black leather jacket with fur collars worn over a black button down and coupled with roomy and drape-y tailored trousers – I kindá think it´s worth a try.
But then again, since I´m petite, I would have to wear these pants with high heeled ankle boots so they won´t swallow my size. But if you´re on the tall side, how about actually getting those open-toe sandals on. In winter? Not even in Fall!

Now over to you, girls, what do you think of Soleil´s edgy, graceful yet fierce fall and winter looks? Do you think Philip Lim encapsulated her mysterious side quite well?
