Light and thin, transparent fabrics took over the summer runways. Those versatile fabrics were seen in most spring-summer shows, in many colours and on diverse items. Adding to traditional sheer shirts, designers used transparent fabrics for skirts, dresses and many other pieces of their collections. Those materials are simple and can be worn in many different styles and outfits. Here are some ideas of how to rock sheer at the office as much as at weekends’ festivals.
1- Sport Chic :
3.1 Phillip Lim : sunglasses, skirt, sweater, bag and shoes
The sweatshirt was reinvented through addition of sheer fabrics and textures. It’s not worn only to the gym anymore. It can be paired with a midi skirt for an elegant, yet edgy, outfit. The sheer sweatshit is the perfect item for a sport-chic style, without looking like you are on your way to work-out. Play with colours and accessories, just as those blue lenses sunglasses, for an even more bold look.
2- Touch of sheer :
Valentino: shirt, sandals, pants,and headband
The great thing about transparent fabrics is that they can be added in little quantity. At Valentino, only the top part of a white shirt was sheer. It brings asymmetry and texture to the simplicity of the top. It’s paired with flared printed pants, which are perfect for a summer evening. The look can be more casual with a pair of flat sandals and hair accessories, or more elegant with pumps and jewellery.
3- Purple Lace :
Burberry Prorsum: cardigan, shoes, bag, top, skirt
Summer is the perfect season for colours and flowers. Why not mix both ? Go completely sheer with a lace floral pencil skirt and a lace floral shirt, all in the same colour. With this kind of outfit, you can choose to go more or less sexy, depending on what you wear beneath. You can add a long cardigan to make the outfit more elegant during workdays, and remove it in the evening. The key word in this look is colour : don’t be scared to mix and match bright shades.
4- Ready for festivals:
Paul Smith: dress, hat, bag, bracelet, sandals.
With summer comes festivals and a sheer dress will allow you to stay cool whilst being comfortable. Choose a light flowy white dress that will allow you to enjoy your days under the sun. Underneath, wear a bathing suit or a crop top with shorts . To embrace completely the boho-chic style, add a hat, a fringe bag, some flat sandals or boots and jewellery. Let your hair loose or braid it, and you are ready to be the most stylish and the most comfortable person out there.
5-All black :
Saint Laurent: shirt, skirt, shoes, coat, socks
For a more daring look, go with this all black outfit that matches different textures and styles. The sheer shirt can be worn with different type of black skirts, depending on the style you are trying to achieve. For more elegance, you could pair it with a midi pleated skirt. Here, the black patent skirt is perfect for edgy girls going out during the summer. Add a trench coat and socks in your pumps to get the complete look. Of course, socks in heels are not for everybody, so it’s up to you.
