Hello Charlie! Tell us a little about you and your blog.
Hi! Well I’m a young womenswear designer living in London. I started Girl a la Mode when I was in the university studying fashion design, and my blog follows my journey through the industry, including my outfits and inspirations along the way.
What inspired you to start a fashion blog?
I was really getting into reading other blogs at the time, but I felt there was something missing, something I could fill.
What´s your signature style?
I’m quite minimal and androgynous, I’m very inspired by Belgian fashion as well as traditional english tailoring.
What are the five fashion essentials every well-dressed woman must have?
Great shoes are a MUST, statement jewellery (for when the outfit needs an extra little something), tailored trousers, a beautiful coat or jacket and the perfect bag to top it all off.
How does living in your area affect your style?
East London is quite relaxed and you can totally be yourself, which is important. Where I grew up it was all jeans and hoodies, and I never felt comfortable with that.
Which three shops do you love (the most) to shop?
I shop mostly online, so at the moment it’s eBay, Shopbop and the Outnet.
What advice would you give to those who want to put up their own fashion blog?
Be original and try and give something that’s not already out there.
Enough talk! Show us some of the most creative outfits you´ve worn.
Wearing: Acne shirt, Vivienne Westwood trousers, Balenciaga sandals, Moxham bracelet, alexander wang crossover bra.
This is one of my latest outfits, I love it because it’s so comfortable and relaxed but still totally chic. I don’t think the outfit would have worked without the chunky bracelet and crossover straps. It’s all in the details.
Wearing: Limi Feu coat, Haider Ackerman draped waistcoat, Complex Geometries skirt, Dr Martens shoes, D&G gloves.
This look is very dark, but I’m a sucker for texture and this was the perfect mix of drape, leather, wool and silk. The patent Dr Martens finished the look perfectly.
Wearing: Ann demeulemeester dress and buckle boots, vintage tailored trousers.
Probably my all time favourite outfit, I love wearing all white when I can.
Wearing: Ann Demeulemeester jacket and buckle boots, Haider Ackermann waistcoat and trousers, American Apparel clutch
Another pale look, this time accented with a stone clutch from american apparel and gold foil nails.
And finally, if you could whisper a fail-safe style tip to every woman´s ears, what would it be?
Simple; Less is more.
Thank you so much for your tips, Charlie. Have a great weekend!
She has such an interesting style!
