Wondering how to wear colored tights? It´s a fun and creative transitional trend and in this post, I will cover the ways you can incorporate bright tights to your fall wardrobe.
I was still soaking the late start of summer when it ended abruptly. This year´s summer is too short in this part of the world and I´m not happy about it.
Fall has come before summer even took full swing.
In order to make myself feel good with the quick arrival of fall, I decided to feature fun and interesting fall trends from the runway for fall. The looks above are from 2019 runway show, but although dated, we can always use these style ideas to incorporate to our 2021-22 fall winter.
One quirky trend that I like and has comeback is colored tights. I have talked about this trend for fall since 2012. It comes back on the runway every year either for spring or fall. It´s something that I sort of expect when it comes to transitional trends. The theme here is “the more colors, the better“.
If bright colors intimidate you, start with wearing muted colors such as black or beige, and then accent it with a pair of colored tights.
And, very important to remember is that in order to NOT look tacky while wearing bright coloredl tights, make sure that all the colors that you put together in a look are cohesive. They´re either analogous or complimentary. To check which colors work together, use a color wheel.

1. How to Wear Colored Tights: Opt for Purple
I started this look by choosing the right purple tights – in terms of color and quality. And then I chose a printed skirt to go with it. I found this A-line skirt with gorgeous aprican print. It´s available in different colors but I chose the one dominated with purple.
I then looked for a pink blouse that matches the pinkness on the print of the skirt. It´s style should be perfect to tuck in the high-waisted skirt. I love everything about this blouse. Its elegant flutter sleeves and bow are my favorite.
Black heels are essential to the polish the outfit. I also added an accent bag in red to match the redness on the print.
Of course it´s easier to create a look like this if you have lots of options of clothing online. But if you´re recreating this look from the pieces that you already got in your closet, the safest way is to look for a printed piece with the same shade of purple as your purple tights.
2. How to wear Colored Tights: The Checked with Blue
I kept this outfit sort of tonal. Blue on blue. The shades of blue differn but once you put them all on, you´ll see that it´s the blue that dominates the look. In building an outfit such as this, you can a dress to be your focal point, or you can pick the tights to be your starting point.
The same principle applies. Since this vintage patchwork dress has a rich plaid skirt which features several tones of blue, it´s the perfect base for a blue on blue layering.
I kept the shoes and the bag in black for a polished result.
3. How to Wear yellow tights: with animal print
I would rather wear this look minus the tights. But hey, if you like a hint of trend through your colorful tights, go for a gold opaque tights.
The tights I used here are more yellow than gold, but that´s because it´s hard to find a real gold opaque tights. Maybe Kate spade should include those thights in their fall collection too.
4. How to wear the green tights: with yellow print
Here´s another creative look that I´m proud about. Green does look good with yellow, no?
I chose this yellow print tea dress to layer over some green colorful tights. Adding black to the look – belt, shoes and shrug – makes the look put together. I wanted to add balance to the outfit so I added a green bag to match the tights.
So that´s my take on the colorful tights trend. The good thing about this trend other than it being fun and bright, is that you know that it´s going to come back as a trend for next transitional seasons. Therefore, investing on a pair of colorful tights isn´t wasteful. You can definitely wear them again.
Take a cue from Anna Sui´s runway looks and learn how to have fun with bold hosiery. All the colors, prints, upbeatness and girliness with Sixties inspirations will surely make you so awake even if the sun sets at five.
Described as artly, brainy and fun – from colors such as fuchsia, orange, turquoise and lime, with a slew of great plaid coats and cardigans that were adorably paired with Mod-ish shift dresses and skirts, even the eyewear. Needless to say, I´m in awe with the colored tights´ ability to bring out all the elements in a look, whether it´s to clash with the color of the dress or to complement it, or with how the bright colored tights were able to amp up the entire outfit.
These looks are great if you´re into going bold this fall and winter 2021-22. Let´s steal this idea.

11. The Powerful All Red
Although our runway inspiration tells us that we can wear head-to-toe red or orange to meet up with the clients, I would opt to wear head-to-toe red for special events such as a lunch cruise or a wedding reception party.
I´m loving the grace and glamor of this floral lace gown which has a touch of modern romance. Style it up with a red shoulder bag, a red hat, red strap heels, and red opaque tights. It´s even better if you can make the shade of each piece exactly the same.
12. The Fresh All Green
If there´s any color that´s safest for you to wear from head to toe, it´s green. This color is fresh to the eye; it also symbolizes growth and harmony. In short, a huge green outfit is never painful to see.
I picked this green dress from Coast because I´m attracted to ruching of its skirt. It´s modern, chic, and slimming to your figure. To wear it to work, add a green blazer, a green satchel and green pumps. To wear it to date, wear it as is, grab a green clutch, and slip into this green lace up sandal.
13. The Confident All Blue
Blue is my favorite color so naturally, I was ecstatic to create this look. There are three options of blue midi dress from Coast. Although I was a bit unsure which one to pick for this lookboard, I eventually went for this boardroom-ready sophisticated blue dress because of its strategic waist feature. I know for once that many stylish girls are uncomfortable with dresses that strictly contour the body. This midi dress is smart and feminine, but it´s also comfortable and it lets you move with confidence.
Complete the look with a blue satchel bag, blue strap sandals, and blue opaque tights. Of course you can drop the tights if rather keep it less.
Are colorful tights something you´d consider wearing? Or are you wearing them already?
