I became enamored with coat dresses when the World met Kate Middleton. I always just thought of coats as an invisible accessory; most of the time you have to take it off. What is so special about a coat?
Then I began to notice that J. Crew defines coat dresses as “The Lady Coat.” Very beautiful wool coats with an insulated layer to protect one from the cold. But I live in Houston, TX, where our winter lasts only 2 months out of the year and we rarely experience snow.
However the more I tried to talk myself out of liking coat dresses, the more I saw how utterly refreshing it is on Kate Middleton.

She looks amazingly sophisticated and elegant in coat dresses. It makes me wonder if fashion designers are channeling Kate Middleton in their designs. Check out this year’s most breathtaking coat dresses.
Classic Black
Ultimately the “go to” color that can instantly slim you and create a better silhouette. There are so many variations of the Classic Black Coat Dress on the Runway. It was very hard for me to decide which designer showcased a better vision.

Fur Detail and Design
Fur is an everlasting trend every Fall and Winter. Adding a bit of Fur can up the Wow factor of the coat dress.

Bright and Stunning
It is refreshing to see fashion designers play with color for their Fall and Winter collections. Color is important because it can energize your outfit and lift your spirits toward a Holiday mood. I feel drawn towards outfits with pops of color.

Snowy White
There is something to be said about White. It personifies purity, innocence, and in this case drama just like Snow White’s life (the whole evil Queen and apple ordeal). The punch of metallic really creates a majestic allure while the J. Mendel coat dress is a modern style compared to Kate Middleton’s Alexander McQueen version (see above).

Check Print and Floral
Monochromatic has its appeal and so does print. Plaid is back in trend especially the blue and green checked. I just noticed Blumarine dual color contrast print on the bottom of the coat. Very different and eye catching.
