There is a general notion that once you reach the top ladder and become a manager, your work wardrobe should also have a promotion. However, I read somewhere that when you´re still a regular employee, you should endeavor to dress smartly and sharply in order to impress your superiors and to send them the message that you aim the top. But that once you become a manager, you should dress simply in order to send the message to your subordinates that you’re approachable.
I´m not an expert on that area so I can´t say if the principle is absolutely correct or not, although I believe that it´s a great point to ponder.
