My youngest sister is still a college student and it´s currently a back-to-campus for her. I know that a good size of my audience here in Creative Fashion are students, so I thought of featuring five college essentials that are comprised of versatile, affordable pieces—and yes, this post is inspired by my sister.
Denim. What is it with denim that the younger we are, the more we patronize it? I remember how my close friends and I in college would save up for months (or wait for our stipend allowance from our scholarship) and splurge for two or three denim jeans and some signature body fitting t-shirts.
There´s just something in the crispiness or softness of our denim that we loved. The coolest of us, or probably the one with money, could rock a nice denim jacket. I never had a denim jacket, or vest, throughout college, but they´re the first I bought when I got my first salary.
Here are the five back to campus college essentials that you should have if you´re a college student.
Table of Contents
1. Denim Trucker
Whether you´re rocking a trumpet skirt, a skinny jean, or a lowest boyfriend jean, and you wear it with a t-shirt, a denim trucker, with its cropped length, is perfect to complete the look. It has that youthful allure that speaks of your age and of your current life adventures.
2. Versatile Skinny Jeans
Whether you´re a college student or not, you would surely agree with me that skinny jeans are the most versatile jeans. You wear them with flat ballerinas on a casual summer day, with pointed pumps on a casual-but-smart evening night out, with ankle boots in spring or fall, and with riding boots in winter. You get the most of your money, and you also show off those nice legs without baring your skin.
3. Classic Straight + Boot Cut Jeans
Although they´re not the most versatile, they´re the statement makers for one-off events. These are the jeans you prefer to wear to more formal gatherings, and the best thing about them? They lengthen your legs without giving away the truth. Always wear them with high heels, even four or five inches, ´cause under those flared or straight cut hems you need not worry of your proportions.
4. Western Shirts
Very all-American favorite, isn´t it? Let me know if you need a cowboy hat, I got three here, I can lend you one (wink). But think of teaming this relaxed, denim-looking shirts with some biker or cowboy boots—so cool! It´s very traditional and it´s like going back to your roots.
5. Denim Top Layering
Yet another two options for outer layering. If the trucker is out of town, opt for a denim vest or a raglan sleeves + denim bodice sweater instead. They´ll add some interest to your casual cotton shirt + denim jeans look.
