When I first saw the 3.1 Phillip Lim Pashli Satchel on other fashion bloggers early this season, I was immediately smitten. Curious if I could ever afford it, I went on to check the price. I remember it´s worth around $1000 during that time. I knew it´s way out of my budget so I erased it from my mind. I´d content myself watching other stylistas wear it on the street and posting it on their blog. How adorable.
3.1 Phillip Lim Pashli Satchel
While there are many colors available – from the über chic cobalt blue to jade and taupe – I was coveting the black. In my opinion, it´s the most polished of them all.
And then came the day before Christmas, I and hubby were awakened early that morning by a door bell. Hubby got up and welcomed the delivery man, a huge box in his hand. I jumped off the bed excited to see what´s inside.
MONNIER Frères is a French high-end design retailer with an outlet in Germany. Hubby ordered the satchel from them and they delivered it within 24 hours.
The satchel is available in small and big sizes. I´ve always preferred the latter and it´s what hubby ordered. But during that time the online retailer had it in only cobalt blue and rust. The blue was sold out. The black satchels were small. There´s no other option but to take the rust.
With a smile that reached from ear to ear, my adorable husband opened the box and handed me his Christmas gift. I was in awe, I couldn´t believe it´s real. I was totally touched and in tears.
Two days later and the black big satchel was available at the online shop, but I already loved my bag.
What I Think of 3.1 Phillip Lim Pashli Satchel
At MONNIER Frères the satchel is priced €840. my-wardrobe, a UK-based online boutique, retails it at the same price. At Shopbop the classic 3.1 Phillip Lim Pashli is €674.74 or $895.00. Although it´s cheaper by 20% if purchased from Shopbop, Germany imposes quite a high tax on goods purchased outside the EU.
So buying it from Shopbop wasn´t an option for us. But if you´re in the US, it´s a favor for you.
The satchel is made of really good material. The leather is high quality and you could quickly tell by how robust the bag is and how heavy it weighs. I find the bag heavy. If filled with a book, a tablet, a smart phone, a wallet, and some make up, the weight would surely weigh my thin arms down. But that´s just me, you could have a different opinion on this area.
I love the structure, I find the twin zippers a great feature, but I don´t like its closure. It´s easy to open but I find it time-consuming to close. It´s time-consuming because I have to take care of the metal. I´ve to make sure that the top closure hits the hole properly before I push to close, otherwise it would scratch the surface of the lower metal. The scratches would probably be more visible on gold metal, but that´s just an assumption. You have to ask the girls who had it in black and gold.
I think this bag isn´t a great pick to carry on stressful events such as a long flight. It´s a flap closure bag which doesn´t entirely protect your stuff from pick pockets but does provide a wide secret pocket where you can stash your most valuables.
All in all I´m very pleased with the bag. It´s both trendy and versatile. It´s great quality, very well-made, and a great gift from my hubby.
Now over to you, what do you think of 3.1 Phillip Lim Pashli Satchel? Would you spend that much money for a designer satchel?
